Machars Movies get a wonderful 10th birthday present!
Following a successful trial in spring 2019 to take Machars Movies out to village halls in the Machars, Driftwood Cinema applied on our behalf to Screen Scotland for funding for our own mobile screening kit.
Hugh Jaques, Chairman said: “We have had great support since joining Driftwood Cinema which has given us better access to films and proved very cost effective. We are delighted in our 10th anniversary year to receive our own mobile screening kit funded by Screen Scotland. We would like to thank both these organisations as this will mean a reduction in our costs and manpower time as we continue to take our films out into the wider community in the Machars.”
Machars Movies new programme started in September and we will taking our new kit out on the road to Monreith, Whauphill, Sorbie village halls, The Swallow Theatre and South Machars Community Centre. The rest of the programme will be at our home base of St Ninian’s Hall, Isle of Whithorn.

About our Films:
Our Season runs from September to April each year. We aim to show around 14 films during that period.
Over 700 independent films are released each year in Britain. Add this number to the movies made from around the world and it is understandable that we never get to hear about them all.
Our committee gets lots of feedback from our audience on the types of films they want to see, and the Film Programme Group really appreciated the ideas suggested for this current season.
Our aim is to achieve a varied mix, from well known blockbusters, different genres and films you might not have come across. We believe we have responded to the feedback to provide a diverse programme this coming season of drama, comedy, biography, romance and history.
